I have been working on a space freighter mesh for a while, and my original idea was to have it textured in the classic “battered scifi freighter” look… However, in the end I decided on a different appearance entirely (I say end… I have yet to finish the bl00dy illustration!) but created a number of worn and rusty looking spaceship hull textures as I experimented.
This is one of them, for you to play with in your own work.
Size: 1000 x 1000 px
Colour Mode : RGB
You can use this texture in conjunction with the Normal and Specular textures also available in my Resources gallery here on DeviantArt
In my 3D software I set these up as follows:
⁃ the hull plate texture in the Colour layer
⁃ in the Diffusion layer, I either put the hull plate texture in again (mixed really low - around 3%) or a dirt texture
⁃ a Reflection layer, with low Brightness (around 6%)
⁃ A Normal layer (typically made with nDo in Photoshop, or the free Crazy Bump)
⁃ A Specular Colour layer (again usually made with Crazy Bump) and ADDed
Specular and Illumination model (Phong, etc) depend on whether I want it to look like shiny metal or painted metal.
You will find other textures useful for creating spaceships and other scifi props in my Resources folder
Do whatever you want with it - except, of course, claim it as your own! Have fun!
